Once, in a last-ditch effort to clean my dishwasher, I emptied a bottle of household cleaning into it. Unwise decision. The inside of the machine may rust and be damaged by certain substances. Only use items designed for use in dishwashers.

Running the dishwasher with just half of the load in it is inefficient since it wastes water and energy and increases the frequency of use, which may shorten the lifespan of the appliance. I now wait for it to be full before running it, making sure it is not overwhelmed.
