6 slices of thick, crusty bread (French bread or Italian loaf works well)
1½ cups shredded mozzarella cheese (or cheddar)
2 tablespoons butter (optional, for toasting bread)
Instructions:
Prepare the Sloppy Joe Mixture:
In a large skillet over medium heat, cook the ground beef and onions until the beef is browned and cooked through. Drain any excess grease.
Add ketchup, Worcestershire sauce, mustard, garlic powder, salt, and pepper. Stir well to combine and let the mixture simmer for 5-7 minutes, allowing the flavors to meld together.
Toast the Bread:
Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C).
Lightly butter one side of each bread slice (optional for added crispiness) and place them on a baking sheet. Toast the bread in the oven for 5 minutes or until lightly golden.
