Step 2: Boil the Ginger
Boil the Water: In a large pot, bring 4 cups of water to a boil.
Add the Ginger: Once the water is boiling, add the sliced ginger and reduce the heat to a simmer.
Simmer: Let the ginger simmer for about 20-30 minutes. The longer you let it simmer, the stronger and more potent the ginger infusion will become.
Step 3: Add Lemon and Honey
Add the Lemon and Honey: After simmering, turn off the heat. Add the lemon slices (squeezing some of them) and 2 tablespoons of honey to the pot. Stir gently to dissolve the honey.
Let the Ingredients Infuse: The residual heat will release the lemon’s essential oils and allow the honey to melt into the drink, creating a smooth, flavorful mixture.
Step 4: Steep and Strain
Steep: Cover the pot and let the mixture steep for about 10 minutes. This step helps all the flavors meld together and enhances the therapeutic properties of the ginger, lemon, and honey.
Strain the Mixture: After steeping, strain the liquid to remove the ginger and lemon slices. You can press them gently with a spoon to extract as much liquid as possible.
Step 5: Serve or Store
Serve: Pour the drink into a mug and enjoy it while warm. The warmth helps soothe the throat and clear the nasal passages.
Store: Any leftover drink can be stored in the refrigerator for up to a week. Reheat gently as needed.
