Step 4: First Rise
- Lightly oil a large bowl and place the dough inside, turning it to coat the surface with oil.
- Cover the bowl with a clean kitchen towel or plastic wrap.
- Let the dough rise in a warm, draft-free area for 1 hour, or until it has doubled in size.
Step 5: Shape the Loaves
- Punch down the dough to release air bubbles and turn it out onto a floured surface.
- Divide the dough into two equal portions.
- Shape each portion into a loaf by flattening it into a rectangle, rolling it up tightly, and pinching the seams closed.
- Place each loaf seam-side down into a greased 9×5-inch loaf pan.
Step 6: Second Rise
- Cover the loaf pans with the kitchen towel or plastic wrap.
- Allow the loaves to rise for 30–40 minutes, or until they double in size and the dough is just above the edge of the pans.
Step 7: Bake the Bread
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
- Bake the loaves for 25–30 minutes, or until the tops are golden brown and the bread sounds hollow when tapped.
- For an extra-soft crust, brush the tops of the loaves with melted butter immediately after removing them from the oven.
